Most products are closer to kosher-eligible than manufacturers expect — but a short list of ingredients causes the majority of issues.

Common flags: animal gelatin, animal rennet, carmine (cochineal) coloring, non-kosher animal fats and mono-/diglycerides, certain enzymes, grape-derived ingredients, shellfish derivatives, and L-cysteine from non-kosher sources.

The pattern — Most have certified or plant-based alternatives. Where one ingredient is a problem, it’s usually a swap, not a redesign.
